My Fairytale - Part One - The Tale of a Princess, a Castle, & other mystical cool stuff

Once upon a time, there was a princess... her name was Emma*

Throughout her life, Emma was never quite your average princess. She wasn't the prettiest girl in all the land, not by far. And though she had wonderful parents, (the King and Queen of Bratfad, who had good morals and were always available with handy advise,) and though she had wonderful friends with whom she used to play and frolick for hours with at the royal parties, and though she lived in a vast palace, Emma always felt like there was something missing. There was a little empty space inside of her pink-princess heart, that she could always ignore, but that was always there. Emma spent lots of time wondering what this void was. She used to write lots of poems and stories to take her out of herself, away from her own life, to escape the feeling she had that she was different from the other citizens of the palace. The princess tried to be a good person, (even though an old hag that lived near the castle used to call her names and make her feel worthless, just because the princess wasn't friends with the hags daughter. It took Emma many, many years to realise that the hag must have been very lonely, to find happiness through hurting a young child... it took Emma a long time to realise it was not her fault, nor the hags, that the hag hated the young child so much... The hag was just very lost.) She didn't realise, and for many years, Emma would spend a lot of time wishing a wizard would come and give her a magical device, in which she could see and understand other people. For she thought if she understood other people, she might one day understand herself.

Then, one cold, blustery day, the princess' grandmother passed away, and the princess stopped searching to fill that void through writing for a little while. The words didn't seem to mean anything anymore, without her grandmother, (the kindest, purest woman in the whole kingdom,) and soon Emma stopped overthinking her existance, and just trotted along, waiting for something, ANYTHING to happen - something to make her life make sense again.

When Emma got a little older, she started to think that maybe the void inside of her was there because she was missing her 'happily ever after.' That the void inside of her could be filled by a Prince Charming, who would sweep her up in his arms, see that on the inside, she was beautiful, and make all the bad things go away. For surely if she found him, that one person in the whole world, to love her, then that would mean there was something inside of her to be loved. Only then would she be able to love herself - once Prince Charming had justified her existance with his love.

Emma then made friends with a group of girls that, for the first time in her life, made her feel included. They had lots of fun together, dreaming of their happily ever afters, all so naively sure they would find them. But then she and one of her friends lost each other. They both had very different feelings towards life, and their conflicting attitudes caused the princess a lot of tears. But she made it through, mainly thanks to her best friend, Verity, the wood nymph.

Emma had made friends with Verity when they were fourteen years old. Verity was the first girl in the world that Emma ever classed as her BEST friend. She had wonderful friends, but Verity was the first person that Emma really felt put her first. Emma saw something in Verity that she felt inside of herself - a desire for the chaotic world they lived in to make sense... Something to make them feel like they were worthy of living in her kingdom.

Verity was there for Emma through everything.

Verity was even there when Emma fell in love.

For Emma had lived a very sheltered life. Through her reading and writing, she had become a romantic. The childhood game of spin the chalice had never appealled to her. Why would she want to kiss all of the frogs in the Kingdom when she could save her first kiss for her Prince Charming, the one man out there that was waiting to find her, to fit. Verity spent many hours telling Emma that she would find her Prince, but Emma, who was slightly superficial in her younger years, could never see how anyone would be able to see past her less-than-gorgeous exterior to see the little princess within... Verity saw that princess... and at first, so did Prince Charming.

Prince Charming rode into the kingdom one day, out of nowhere, when Emma had almost stopped looking for him. He rode in on his horse, Hope, and she saw him, and she saw what he was, and what he could be for her, and she loved him. Prince Charming, (for though flawed, noone could ever despute the fact that he was extremely charming,) became Emma's best friend. She, Verity and Charming would spend hours enjoying life, and for the first time in the princess' life, she trully felt loved.

When he kissed her... the transformation was complete.

The prince became her world, and Emma thought she had found her happily ever after...
